Nashik Native and IIT-Delhi Student Ends Life in Dorm Room

New Delhi: A tragic incident unfolded at IIT-Delhi’s Dronagiri Hostel, as a 23-year-old M.Tech final year student, Varad Sanjay Nerkar, a native of Nashik, Maharashtra, was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan on Friday, according to a police official.

The distressing discovery was made after authorities received a call on Thursday reporting the student’s apparent suicide. Responding promptly, a police team arrived at the scene to find Nerkar suspended from the ceiling fan using a bedsheet.

Facing difficulty in contacting Nerkar due to his unreachable phone, one of his friends, accompanied by IIT campus security staff, took the initiative to break down the door, leading to the grim discovery.

A senior police officer stated, “Investigation is underway from all angles” as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
